My Story
Hi I'm JD, founder of HERO Financial Life Coaching. I've spent the majority of my professional life serving my community and country; first as a firefighter, and later in the U.S.A.F.
In my early 20's I was careless with my money, and I eventually found myself unable to pay for the necessities of life. I went from being arrogant about my money skills to being embarrassed about my situation. I was scared about my future, and vowed it would never happen again!
I learned all I could about the basics of personal finance, and throughout the next decade I worked to build the habits and education I needed to become financially free.
In 2016 I began my 8 years of military service. During my tenure, I repeatedly heard from co-workers that we didn't get paid enough to live on. This was a strange perspective to me; as an E3 with three dependents I was able to live comfortably AND pay off $20,000 in debt over two years. I noticed fellow Airmen of all ranks struggling with money and I realized the problem was less about income, and more about habits, education, and resources!
In 2020 I began training as a behavioral financial coach, while continuing my military service. I wanted to help my brothers and sisters in arms and other first responders to develop and use the same habits, education, and resources I have learned through years in the trenches.
Because of these habits, education, and resources I was able to create opportunities for myself to pursue my personal mission and in 2024 I did just that! I left the U.S.A.F and started coaching full time!

As a former first responder and military veteran, I've learned that mission success is most likely achieved working as a team.
